Display your IP in the Menu Bar

IPMenulet is the best way to display your Mac’s IP address in a permanent and always visible manner.

If your like me and need access to your IP address on a regular basis you will love this next tip. I am constantly messing around with my home network and lately Logmein’s Hamachi service so I have been needing my IP address more frequently. I know you are probably thinking why not just put it on a sticky in your Mac dashboard? And that is a great idea but sometimes I don’t want to have to navigate away from what I am doing in order to view it and would much rather have it in in plain sight at all times.

IPMenulet is the best way to display your Mac’s IP address in a permanent and always visible manner. This very basic and will not hog any system resources if you are concerned about it slowing down your computer. It will simply display your IP in your Mac OS X menu bar, like the screenshot below shows:

Pretty neat huh? I recommend this to anyone who has a dynamic IP address* as well or if you are on a laptop and move between different networks often.

* – Dynamic IP addressing assigns a different IP address each time the ISP customer logs on to their computer, but this is dependent upon the Internet Service Provider (ISP) because some ISP’s only change the IP address as they deem it necessary. This is the most common.

Download IPMenulet through it’s developers website located here (it’s free!). The developer has also released the source code for this app if you would like to investigate it further or maybe customize it to your own desires.

Don’t want to display it in your menu bar 24/7, but still want to know how to view your IP? You can always find your IP address in OS X by using the website whatismyip.org.
